We are looking for the best girls on campus and we would love the chance to get to know more about you! As one of the smaller sororities on campus, our close-knit group of girls chooses not to participate in the larger formal fall rush; instead, we have a week's worth of events within the first few weeks of school. Our only goal is to learn more about you and to show you how great being a Sigma Alpha Sister can be. We do not require any letters of recommendation, only our membership application and a smile.

While we are associated and apart of the College of Agriculture here at Louisiana State University, it is not a requirement to be an agriculture major to be apart of Sigma Alpha. We are looking for girls who are willing to strive for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service, as well as those who are open minded to learning about all agriculture has to offer and hopefully love it as much as many of our members (Ag and non-Ag alike) have! We value sisterhood above all else and are always looking for new people to call family. Please feel free to contact us through the contact section of our website. We would love to talk to you about what being a Sigma Alpha Sister really means.
Frequently Asked Questions about Recruitment
How much of a time commitment is Sigma Alpha?
As a membership candidate, you are required to participate in one weekly meeting scheduled by your fellow membership candidates. You will take weekly quizzes on our history and a cumulative final. Additionally, you will participate in Big/Little, service projects, an agriculture presentation, a sisterhood retreat, and any additional events as prepared by the New Member Educator. As an active, weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM are required, as well as additional events throughout the semester. We also have service, PHC, philanthropy and other requirements to be an active member.
What do I have to do to be considered?
In order to be considered for membership candidacy, you must meet the minimum GPA requirement, fill out our membership application, and pay our membership application fee of $20. You must also attend two nights of recruitment minimum, although all nights are encouraged, one including Preference Night.
Do I have to be a member of the College of Agriculture to Rush?
While we are a professional sorority affiliated with the College of Agriculture, we do not require that you be apart of the College of Agriculture. It is required that you are knowledgable about any aspects of Agriculture and have a love and passion for it.
What is the minimum GPA to be considered?
The minimum GPA is a 2.5 cumulative GPA. If you are just starting at LSU, this will be taken from your high school GPA. If you have finished at least one semester at LSU, we will only consider that GPA.
How much are membership dues?
Membership dues are varied every year, but are usually around $300-$400 to cover all aspects of your experience as a Membership Candidate for Sigma Alpha.
Can I be in another sorority and join Sigma Alpha?
Sigma Alpha is a PHC affiliated sorority; therefore, you cannot be affiliated with any other sororities on campus if you want to join Sigma Alpha.
When will Recruitment take place?
Recruitment is tentatively scheduled to be the second week of school, August 29th-September 3rd. All events will start at 7 PM. Please see our recruitment graphic for more information.
Do y'all do formal or informal recruitment?
In the fall, our recruitment is informal. We do not participate in formal recruitment which happens the week before school starts. We do not have certain dress requirements, letters of recommendations, or rounds. Our recruitment consists mainly of our members getting to know potential new members with different activities and presentations.
Can I bring a friend with me?
Yes! Please bring a friend or many friends with you who may be interested in Sigma Alpha. Just remember that it is required to attend preference night and one other night of recruitment to be considered.
What should I wear?
All nights of recruitment are dressy casual, such as nice jeans and an appropriate top. Preference night, however, is business casual. Please see the graphic below for more detail.
