Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Fellowship

Sigma Alpha was founded on these pillars in 1978 to build a sorority that fosters the growth of women in the professional world of Agriculture. Since 1978, Sigma Alpha has grown to represent women in a way that had never been done before. At LSU, Sigma Alpha is one of the faces of the College of Agriculture and professional women across campus. Our pillars have made us who we are and has made us the sorority we are proud to call ourselves. Scroll through our pillars to learn more about how we foster our pillars in our everyday lives!

Agriculture

While agriculture may not be one of our pillars, it is the foundation of Sigma Alpha's pillars. Our sisters, with their uniqueness and talent, all share a personal strong bond and love for agriculture. Whether she's hoping to attend LSU's Vet School, enjoys socializing the dogs and cats at Companion Animal Alliance, wanting to network with alumnae who work in Agriculture, and more, our sorority is founded in Agriculture and its importance. Check out our sisters doing cool things involving Ag below!

Scholarship

Sigma Alpha fosters scholarship by promoting our independence as women in the professional world. Sigma Alpha gives us the tools to be successful professional women by providing us with supportive study groups, people in similar classes with similar professors, celebrating our research projects, and providing us with professional speakers to give us the tools to be successful in the future. Many of our members have had hands on experience with independent undergraduate research projects, studying abroad, and excellent achievements in their field.

Leadership

Sigma Alpha promotes leadership by not only giving our members ample opportunities to become leaders through our many leadership opportunities, but also helps build leadership by requiring our members to be apart of an additional organization on campus. Sigma Alpha also helps promote leadership by celebrating our member's accomplishments as leaders on campus. Several of our members hold officer positions in organizations across campus. Our members also participate in LSU Ambassadors, College of Agriculture leadership positions, LSU Student Government, the LSU Rowing team, Lacrosse, and many more.

Fellowship

Sigma Alpha is, first and foremost, a sisterhood. We strive to be sisters to one another in all aspects of our sorority. Whether it's sisterhood retreat, Big/Little Reveal, supporting each other in our different organizations, or just spending time together, we know that the special bond we have as sisters is what makes Sigma Alpha so special!

Service

Our national philanthropy is Ag in the Classroom, where our sisters travel to different schools around Baton Rouge to help promote and foster the importance of Agriculture in our daily lives. Our local philanthropy is Companion Animal Alliance, our local animal shelter. Whether it's donating our time, resources, or promoting fundraisers for them, we try our best to help CAA in as many ways as possible! Additionally, we participate in several other service events, such as PHC hosted philanthropies, Greek Week with Habitat for Humanity, Geaux Big Baton Rouge, Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, toy drives, Live2Serve, and more!
