What should I wear?
- As a membership candidate, you are required to participate in weekly class meetings scheduled by the New Member Educator. You will take weekly quizzes on our history and a cumulative final. Additionally, you will participate in Big/Little, service projects, an agriculture presentation, a sisterhood retreat, and any additional events as prepared by the New Member Educator.
- As an active, attending weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 7 PM are required, as well as additional events throughout the semester. We also have service, PHC, philanthropy, and other requirements to be an active member.
What do I have to do to be considered?
- In order to be considered for membership candidacy, you must meet the minimum GPA requirement (2.5 cumulative), fill out our membership application, and pay our membership application fee of $20. You must also attend two nights of recruitment minimum, although all nights are encouraged, in addition to Preference Night.
Is a Letter of Recommendation required to be considered?
- We do not require a letter of recommendation in the application process. However, if you'd like to submit a letter of recommendation, please send them to our recruitment email [email protected].
Do I have to be a member of the College of Agriculture to Rush?
- While we are a professional sorority affiliated with the College of Agriculture, we do not require that you be a part of the College of Agriculture. The only requirement is that you have a love and appreciation for agriculture!
What is the minimum GPA to be considered?
- The minimum GPA required is a 2.5 cumulative GPA. If you are just starting at LSU, this will be taken from your high school GPA. If you have finished at least one semester at LSU, we will only consider that GPA.
How much are membership dues?
- Membership dues vary by semester, but are usually around $400-$500 to cover all aspects of your experience as an active member.
- Membership Candidate dues are usually less, around $200-$300.
Can I be in another sorority and join Sigma Alpha?
- Sigma Alpha is a PHC affiliated sorority; therefore, you cannot be affiliated with any other sororities on campus if you want to join Sigma Alpha.
When will Recruitment take place?
- Recruitment takes places in the Fall and Spring semester every year.
Do y'all do formal or informal recruitment?
- Our recruitment is informal. We do not participate in formal recruitment which happens the week before school starts. We do not have certain dress requirements, letters of recommendations, or rounds. Our recruitment consists mainly of our members getting to know potential new members with different activities and presentations.
Can I bring a friend with me?
- Yes! Please bring a friend or many friends with you who may be interested in Sigma Alpha. Just remember that it is required to attend preference night and one other night of recruitment to be considered.
What should I wear?
- All nights of recruitment are dressy casual, such as nice jeans and an appropriate top. Preference night, however, is business professional or Sunday's best. Please see the graphic below for more detail.
