Our Pillars
Sigma Alpha was founded on 4 pillars: scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. Established in 1978, the goal of its founding was to build a sorority that fosters the professional growth and development of women pursuing careers in Agriculture. Since its founding, Sigma Alpha has grown to represent women in a way that had never been done before. At LSU, Sigma Alpha is one of the faces of the College of Agriculture and professional women across campus. Our pillars have made us who we are and have made us proud to be Sisters in Agriculture. Scroll to learn more about how we foster our pillars in our everyday lives!
Agriculture
While agriculture may not be one of our pillars, it is at the core of Sigma Alpha's foundation. Our sisters, with all their uniqueness and talent, share a mutual love for agriculture, which creates the bond that is unique to being a Sigma Alpha sister and defines what it means to be a "Sister in Agriculture." No matter where our sisters may be headed in life, we will always be connected by ours roots and support one another as we strive for achievement in our daily lives and professional careers.

Scholarship
|
Sigma Alpha fosters scholarship by promoting our independence as women in the professional world. Sigma Alpha gives us the tools to be successful, professional women by providing us with supportive study groups and an alumnae network, celebrating our research projects, and providing us with professional speakers whom advise us on how to be successful in our future careers. Many of our members have had hands on experience with independent undergraduate research projects, study abroad, and excellent achievements in their field.

Leadership
Sigma Alpha promotes leadership by providing our members with ample leadership opportunities as well as requiring that our members be apart of an additional organization on campus. Sigma Alpha also helps promote leadership by celebrating our members' accomplishments as leaders on campus. Many of our members hold officer positions in organizations across campus. A few of the organizations our members participate in are LSU Ambassadors, College of Agriculture leadership positions, LSU Student Government, the LSU Pre-Vet club, Block & Bridle, 4-H Club, Feminists in Action, and many more.
Fellowship
Sigma Alpha is, first and foremost, a sisterhood. We strive to be sisters to one another in all aspects of our sorority. Whether it's sisterhood retreat, Big/Little Reveal, supporting each other in our different organizations, or just spending time together, we know that the unique bond we have as sisters is what makes Sigma Alpha so special!
Service
Our national philanthropy is Ag in the Classroom, where our sisters travel to different schools around Baton Rouge to help promote and foster the importance of Agriculture in our daily lives. Our local philanthropy is Companion Animal Alliance, our local animal shelter. Whether it's donating our time, resources, or promoting fundraisers for them, we try our best to help CAA in as many ways as possible! Additionally, we participate in several other service events, such as PHC-hosted philanthropies, Greek Week with Habitat for Humanity, Geaux Big Baton Rouge, Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, toy drives, Live2Serve, and more! Some of our own service events include Pancakes for Pups and Paws for a Cause, all of the proceeds going to Companion Animal Alliance.
